清朝乾隆年间，美丽端庄的姑娘夏紫薇（海陆 饰）和丫环金锁（孙耀琪 饰）从济南大明湖来至京城，因在大街拦截宗人府梁大人的轿乘而被殴打，正在市集卖艺的小燕子（李晟 饰）、柳家兄妹拔刀相助，由此和紫薇成为好友。在此之后，紫薇主仆与小燕子结伴卖艺，经历了无数次的冒险，还结识洋人班杰明（潘杰明 饰）。随着友情的加深，紫薇向小燕子吐露了身世，原来她竟是当今圣上（邱心志 饰）的亲生女儿。为了帮紫薇与父皇相认，小燕子鼎力相助，结果却阴差阳进宫错成了还珠格格。调皮的小燕子、端庄的紫薇与严肃的宫廷生活格格不入，她们闹出了不少笑话，也惹了不少乱子，更结下诸多仇家。在此过程中，她们也收获着各自的爱情……本片根据言情小说家琼瑶的同名原著改编，为10年前旧作的重拍版，分“燕儿翩翩飞”、“风儿阵阵吹”和“人儿何处归”三部。
